Name of Shop: Venetian Souvenirs & Items Only, Please...
What To Buy: There are many kewl souvenirs you can buy in Venice to bring home, besides postcards and magnets. ;-)
For me, I bought about 4 travel diaries from a local store. They are not cheap but they are unique! One of the travel diary I purchased even had a mini how-to-care-for-your-garden, complete with pockets to keep your seeds!
Another travel diary I bought contained a selection of travel quotes. The background of each travel page is travel themed. (
In case you haven't already noticed, my virtual travel pages on VirtualTourist.com contain travel quotes - which I took from this travel diary!).
Another travel diary is all about Venice i.e. it has the best restaurants, hotels, fun-things-to-do recommendations etc complete with color photos to accompany each tip! It's soooo beautiful... I haven't even started using it yet. I doubt I ever will.
Another interesting thing you can buy from Venice is your glam Venetian mask. I bought one... and it's still gathering dust in my cupboard back home. ;-( I'm still waiting to be invited to a costumed party.
Isn't life wierd? Before I bought this Venetian mask in Venice, I had been invited to 2 costumed parties where turning up in these Phantom-of-the-Opera type of masks is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Of course, I did not come in a mask (there's no such masks in Singapore!) and was hailed as "You're so boring, Krystynn!" So, I told myself... got to go to Venice ASAP!
Well, it's been half a decade now.... and I've not had the opportunity to use my glam new Venetian mask! Maybe I should sell it on e-Bay someday. ;-)
O.K., back to souvenirs and things to buy from Venice: If you want to give some of your friends back home a little piece of Venice which won't cost you a bomb - you may wish to consider stuffs like - Italian coffee packed in vaccum-tight bags; Italian-made cookies and Italian-made chocolates. Some of these items are packed in really beautiful bags - in anticipation for the tourist to buy and bring home to his/her homeland.
What To Pay: For those out-of-this-world travel diaries, be prepared to fork out approx. US$50 each. The more unique it is, the more expensive it becomes.
If you're buying those cookies and chocolates, be prepared to set aside a minimum amount of US$10.00 per item.
