Check out Johannesburg's famed tourist attraction - the Gold Reef City. You'd be brought down to the depths of the earth to see how these miners dig for gold. Get ready now to put on your crash helmet... and follow me. Say, a good example is the pic below which shows a typical South African miner hard at work.... yeah, the cooooool one with the bandana. ;-) But seriously, we DID take the elevator which brought us down, down, down... hundreds of feet below for a first hand glimpse of life as a miner in a real diamond mine.

Join a local tour where you'd be taken for a delightful tour of the city of Jo'burg. But DON'T travel alone! This is Jo'burg - a VERY dangerous city if you're walking along the streets ON YOUR OWN. Believe me, they can sniff you out and guess that you're just an innocent tourist. My dear sister was actually robbed of US$700 in cash right here in Sandton City, I think. Let me go check with her again. So, please be careful O.K.?

Go on a Safari. The one we went to was the Pilanesburg Game Reserve, just a few minutes away from our hotel at SUN CITY.... It isn't as big as Kruger National Park; nevertheless, it is still exciting and you can catch a glimpse of the Big 5 at this park. I'm sure it's gonna be exciting. Here's the first of the Big 5 - the African Elephant.

Go on a Safari at the Pilanesburg Game Reserve, Sun City... For those who are wondering what this animal is - well, this is a Rhinocerous... and I don't think it looks very happy to see us/ me popping our heads out of the jeep to take NUMEROUS pictures .......!! For all we know, the Rhino probably thought we were some mad human beings!! Oh and incidentally, I think we got our safari guide, Alfred very, very worried too... Sorry, Alfred! ;-)

Go on a Safari at Pilanesburg Game Reserve, Sun City... Here's the Giraff and Zebra - one of the tamest animals here at the game reserve..... Sadly, the ONLY Big 5 that we didn't manage to spot and was so elusive were the lions. And when I saw the zebras happily grazing on the plains, I knew the lions were no where near to be found! Sigh.... Yeah, yeah, I was definitely disappointed.

canuck68 Sat Jul 7, 2007 23:10 UTC I don't share with you your enthusiasm for Sun City as I thought it was too touristy. I agree the Jo'burg airport is chaotic. Thanks for the nice pictures of Pilanesberg. Diane | vesna04 Sat Aug 30, 2003 13:04 UTC Thanks for such a lovely page :) | MEdelmann Sat Mar 8, 2003 19:34 UTC Great, great, great !! You convinced me to visit Sun City one day... and I will stay in the, right, Palace of the Lost City! Well done, Krystynn ! | Elginah Fri Oct 4, 2002 07:47 UTC Nice page ... but I don't think you gave Jo'burg half a chance though. You may want to hook up with a local next time. With so much diversity, I think you may see things differently. |
