This opulent 100+ year old hotel is wonderfully and strategically located just next to the Opera Garnier. Even if you don't stay here, you must come at least once to marvel at the brightly decorated Belle Epoque-style lobby! And yes - that's us (Shirley & moi) at the main entrance of the hotel. We were just about to leave the hotel to explore the city of Paris. P.S. This is my girlfriend's first visit to Paris. Noticed the star-struck look on her face? ;-) (You know, I'm really gonna get killed for writing this).

Saving on hotel accommodations means you can spend your money on the other important things such as sightseeing, food, shopping, and then even more delicious French food! So, for the savvy BUDGET CONSCIOUS traveler, you may wish to check out this list. I've never stayed in these places before but my friends have and came home with great tales to tell. (1) Fancy a night in a romantic canopy bed? Then Hotel Dragon it is... If you can, try and ask for room #35 or if it's already occupied, ask for rooms facing the front - for they are the brightest in this quaint 17th-century hotel. There's a lovely interior patio and stone-cased stairs. Most have bathrooms and rooms with no showers or toilets are cheaper. Oh, and there's cable TV (with CNN) available at this hotel too. Métro: St. Germain des Prés (6th Arondissement). Rates: 430F/66EUR single; 565F/86EUR double; 740F/113EUR triple; Address: 36, rue Dragon. Tel: 0145485105. Fax: 0142225162. E-mail: hotel.du.dragon@wanadoo.fr (2) The wonderful and charming Hotel Londres Saint Honoré. This is a five-storey 18th-century hotel with rooms that are quite large (yes, in Paris), nicely furnished and carpeted. All rooms are soundproofed, cable TV (with CNN) and have minibars and hair driers (very important!). You'll find Reception Desk on the first floor.... not on the ground level. Métro: Tuileries (Near the Louvre in the 1st Arondissement) Rates: 405-525F/62-80EUR single; 550-615F/78-94EUR double; Address: 13, rue Saint-Roch Contact: Tel: 0142601562. Fax: 0142601600
Unique Qualities: Cheap !

If you want to stay in a convenient location here in Paris, you may wish to try the LE GRAND INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, located just opposite the Opera Garnier and a 1-minute walk to Galeries Lafayette, Mark's & Spencer and Printemps. We were very fortunate that we got a really good rate at this hotel. And what's more, we were upgraded (yes!) to a junior suite facing Boulevard Haussman! I guess that is the only thing that's 'inexpensive' and within our budget here in Paris....
Unique Qualities: Everything else in Paris and especially at this hotel is VERY, VERY expensive!!! For example, my girlfriend and I had to think TEN times whether to eat breakfast at the hotel (€25, I believe) or drink a cup of hot chocolate (€5). Don't even get me started on the cost of room service.
