  • GRAND HYATT ERAWAN HOTEL here in exotic Bangkok.

Check out our lovely bedroom. This was the hotel we chose for our vacation here in 1995. The entire hotel has been furnished with splendid Thai furniture with delicate wooden carvings. There is only one word to describe this whole place/ experience - WOW!!!!
Hope you like this pic that I've done up!

Unique Qualities: The most memorable experience for me must surely be our bedtimes when the 3 of us are all holed up in the SAME king-size bed...

What to do? No money to pay for another hotel room. :-( And what's more, all 3 of us are at least 5ft 7 inches tall or taller. Read: We had a difficult time sleeping...

I think I must have accidentally crushed one of my girlfriends one night and another girlfriend was thrown off the bed by yours truly. Sooorrry, Sonia and Catherine!! :-(

  • WESTIN BANYAN TREE HOTEL.

A newly built all-suite hotel cum spa resort(!!); it's actually the TALLEST hotel building in the city of Bangkok. That's me lounging around in our HUGE bedroom...

This particular pic was taken during our trip to Bangkok in end-June 2000. For more pics of this splendid hotel, please surf straight to my TRAVELOGUE: Summer in Bangkok (2000)

If my memory didn't fail me, we were charged the corporate rate of US$107 nett per night (inclusive of their SUMPTUOUS buffet breakfast daily) for a JUNIOR SUITE. Anyway, the Westin Banyan Tree here in Bangkok is an ALL-SUITE hotel. So, be rest assured that should you choose this hotel, you'd be staying in a junior suite.

The toilettries here are simply stupendous... Let's just say it's soooo New Age! And if you want to be pampered on some days, just pick up the phone and get your butler (if you're a LADY traveler, you'd get a FEMALE butler) to prepare a special bath for you sprinkled with Japanese leaves, flowers - mixed with some special aromatherapy oils...

The whole bathroom will eventually smell like the Garden of Eden.... :-))

Directions: Strategically located just across Silom Road - where great nightlife abounds. You can find lots of good Irish pubs around the Silom Road aread:

Apparently, the Westin Banyan Tree has won accolades in following categories:

    - Top 3 BEST New Hotels Worldwide.

    - BEST New Hotel in the Asia Pacific Region (according to Executive Travel Magazine's annual survey for Hotel of the Year 1997).

    - Top 3 BEST New Business Hotels in the World (according to the Business Traveler Magazine's Reader Poll.

  • The PENINSULA HOTEL is a newly-built luxury hotel, located along the banks of the Chao Praya River. Yes, it's part of the world famous Peninsula Hotel chain (they have one in Los Angeles and another in Hongkong... among others). I haven't stayed here yet but the next time when I visit Bangkok, I'll try this hotel out.

Room rates start from US$85++ per room per night. You can surf to this website to enjoy discounted rates. http://www.asiatravel.com/thailand/peninsula/index.html Book a room at The Peninsula Hotel via AsiaTravel.com

  • GRAND HYATT ERAWAN HOTEL here in the city.

I just looove this hotel, because their service is FANTASTIC; rooms are heavenly; and right next door to the Grand Hyatt is the Sogo Department Store (read: GREAT shopping); across the street is Planet Hollywood; and everywhere around the hotel are great shopping complexes.

We paid approximately US$140 nett per room nite for a Regency Club Junior Suite on the Regency (Executive Floor). This comes with Butler service, unlimited usage of the exclusive gym room, breakfast, tea, finger snacks, drinks (wine, beer, juices) the whole day.

Unique Qualities: The hotel is strategically located in the business, commercial and diplomatic district - and is just 30 minutes away from the airport (during off peak hours only. It is NOT surprising if you take 3 hours or more to reach your hotel from the airport IF you were to arrive during the peak hours of the day. Serious!
For a rapid mode of transport in busy Bangkok, utilize the new Elevated Train system.
