Batu Caves: Still at Batu Caves.... ...

  • Still at Batu Caves....

Located 14KM north of Kuala Lumpur (in Gombak), the caves consist of three main caves and a number of smaller ones.

The main Temple Cave actually has 272 flight of steps and climbing up is not an easy task especially if you aren't the sporty type. BUT as many as 800,000 people perform this feat (er...walking up the stairs, that is) during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam, an annual event that is derived from a South Indian religious celebration as a day of penance and atonement among the Dravidian Hindu community.

It's quite a sight actually as you see these devotees walking around with a kavadi (a large wooden frame shaped like a cresent) and their tongues, body and cheeks spiked (read: pierced) with SHARP skewers and... and.... they exhibit no sign of pain or discomfort whatsoever. Impressive! It is indeed a spectacular sight and definitely NOT for the faint hearted.

Genting Highlands: Just an hour's drive away from...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just an hour's drive away from K.L. is the highland resort of Genting Highlands.

You can go there to chill out... to gamble away... or to just to enjoy the cool mountain air! :-)) This place is like the Las Vegas of the East.... and it also houses a world-class casino, a theme park and several first-class hotels and an excellent 18 hole golf course.

From Kuala Lumpur (the capital city of Malaysia) on a clear night, you can even see the bright lights of Genting Highland twinkling in the sky! Not surprising since Genting Highland is just a mere one hour's drive away from K.L.

Did you know that the development of Genting Resort began way back in 1965 and today, it has bloomed into a MAJOR holiday resort drawing thousands of visitors from all over the region? And it's no wonder too... with its cool weather, lush greenery and a wide range of recreational activities making this an ideal INEXPENSIVE destination.
