There is so much that I can say about this wonderful little hotel. We stayed for 7 nights (Sept. 1st - 8th 2006) which was over Labor Day weekend in the US. The place was mostly empty due to it being the low season and I loved it. After getting a little lost trying to find the place we drove up to the Reception area, checked in with no problems and was offered a refreshing Welcome Punch. Since we rented our room directly from the owner and not through the hotel I was expecting some problems, but we didn't encounter any at all. We drove over to our building and a bell boy met us to help with our bags. He was so helpful, took everything out of the car, put them on a dolly and brought them up to our room on the third floor. He explained everything about the room and the activities the hotel offered. Again I was surprised since we didn't rent the room through the hotel I figured that we would be treated as second class - No such thing!
From the moment we entered this hotel everyone waited hand over foot for us. By the end of the week I seriously felt like I was at home. We knew everyone from the Hotel Manager to the kid who puts the chairs out on the beach in the morning and I am not one to usually meet people! One day my husband was not feeling well and we did not go to the beach. Later in the afternoon we saw the person who put out the beach chairs and he came over to make sure that we were ok and said he was sad because he thought we left and didn't say goodbye!!!
To say that I felt at home would be an understatement!
Unique Qualities: This hotel is still under development. Currently there are two buildings under construction, however, this did not distract our stay at all. The rooms are well constructed so there was no problems with outside noise.
Currently, there is one nice free form pool with a swim up bar, however, when the entire hotel is finished there will be a much larger pool area. Everything is new and in great condition. We had a Studio room that had everything we needed including a DVD player, a small kitchenette with service for 4, a microwave and a fridge.
There are larger rooms with a full size kitchen which would come in handy since the island is very expensive and eating some meals in the room can save some $$.
There is a small restaurant - The Orchid Bar and Grill on the premises which serves Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. We did not have dinner there but Breakfast and Lunch were good and average price. The drinks were good and 1/2 price during happy hour from 4-7!
We went to the Managers BBQ which is hosted on Monday Nights and had all we could eat for $36 a person - A great deal for great food! We met the other travelers and had a great time eatting and watching the sunset with Yummy Rum Punch!
The beach in front of the hotel is nothing short of perfect. There are no palapas but every day tons of beach umbrellas we put out and a fair amount of chairs as well. There is no coral in front of the hotel and the sand is powder soft. It was the perfect spot to walk either way on the beach for miles!
