An Oasis in the Desert

by marinagape - last update: Aug 16, 2005

This is the place where I live

Kiosko
Although I was born in Monterrey, I live in García.

Situated in the northeast of the State, 40 kilometers from the city of Monterrey, on Federal Highway 40 towards Saltillo, is the municipality of García.

Garcia is a very typical town of the northeastern of the country.

We have really good restaurants of traditionl food ( steaks, roast beefs, different kind of cheese), nice and comfortables hotels and natural beauty.

Wanna see..???
Cable car

Things to do

Well our most important attraction is The natural park García's Caves or Grutas de García. They were discovered by the priest Antonio de Sobrevilla in 1843.

My grandpa worked when people had to came in riding on a donkey!!!, then the Club de Leones bought a funicular for transporting people. This funicular worked until the 2000 year.

Now the caves has the newest cable car of Latin America.
Caves

Things to do

Here we go inside the caves. the tour is approximately 2 kilometers long and takes you though 16 chambers.

There are lots of formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

On the cave walls, it is easy to spot fossils of shells and winkles, which thus supposes that the caves are about 50 to 60 million years old and were submerged by the sea.
Church

Around the town

As I said Garcia is a very traditional northeastern town and one of the oldest municipalities in the state of Nuevo León.

For example this San Juan Bautista Temple. It is the oldest of the state which date back to the 18th century. The walls of these were built from adobe and Ashlar and the roofs from wood and terra-cotta.
