Beautiful historic monuments really well preserved like the one in the picture - Sabratha - but you have much more of the old roman ruins along the coastline - Leptis Magna, Apollonia, Cyrene... |
| | Berber houses and granaries In some spots in desert areas you only see these qasrs (translated as "castles") -fortified walls to defend the grains (the only "goods" of the desert families). This one in the picture is Qasr Kabaw and it's better preserved than the most known in Qasr Al Hajj. In some other places you have full villages as it is the case of Ghadames -a fantastic village in the border of the desert inhabited until the late 80's. |
| | desert experience this is one of the best desert area in the world You would love the experience of sleep in tents with the Berbers, look for the oasis, maybe get a storm, and above all, see the desert sunset (yes they are different). With luck maybe you will experience camel -both travel on their back, and try their tender meat (baby camel cuscus it's a must dish). |

| Pros: | ""unspoiled" place, not many "tourists", preserved ruins, best desert, yummy food" | | In A Nutshell: | "not just "Khadafi" although you see "him" everywhere -I plan to return" |
