Mykonos is a famous island located at Cyclades complex near Tinos and Syros but also not far from Naxos and Paros. In ancient Greece it was just an island that was providing supplies the important island of Delos (which was much more populated than Mykonos at that time).

The main town of the island is Mykonos (also known as Chora) with about 8,000 inhabitants but until the mid 50s it was just a small fishing village, then a tourist boom turned the island into one of the most popular destinations all over the world, so the locals forget how to go fishing and tried to catch the tourist money! :) The island became famous for its party scene, numerous clubs and wild nightlife but normal people can enjoy the island too, especially if you come off season you may appreciate the beautiful architecture of Mykonos town with an amazing maze of picturesque alleys. I have been to Mykonos town on easter too and had great time with unexpected surprised taking place, we saw local women are on the streets on Holy Friday singing some gospel songs with people following them from the one chapel to the other into the packed alleys.

You can easily reach Mykonos by plane or by ferry from Pireaus or Rafina ports if you come from Athens or from the near by islands.

Hi I dont love to hate this lovely place at all!arrived after an excellent nights sleep and shower on overnight boat..early am to all the backstreets free of people and beautifully photogenic!lots of poppies on the hill...and an xlnt trip to Delos!

You are certainly right and Mykonos is better than its reputation and worth a visit off season!
