Oxford is the famous university city, located 90km northwest of London. Go there by train or bus from London (there are many every 15 minutes!).
The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. In our days there are 39 colleges all over the city.
The population of Oxford is 135.000 according to 2001 census. Oxford was once a Saxon town at a point where River Cherwell meets The Thames. River Thames runs through Oxford and for a distance of some 10 miles it is known as Isis. |
| | -Oxford is a walkable city, not big so you can visit the basic landmarks of the city like the major colleges and other places of interest just by walking.
Unfortunately, I don't have many photos of the city so for the moments I will write just a few tips. I have to return though because some pubs had some real good beer there but next time I will do the sightseeing before drinking :) |
| | Things to do/see: -Punting along the River Cherwell -Magdalen Tower -Carfax Tower -Saxon Tower -Bodleian Library -Radcliffe Camera -Botanic Gardens -Bridge Of Sighs -visit some colleges and churches -walk at Broad Street for shopping or some of the colleges -women will like High Street for shopping too |
