Wacken Travel Guide: 16 reviews and 45 photos
Wacken is a just a small village in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein area in Germany, one hour away from Hamburg. The 2000 inhabitants have a peaceful daily life, feed their cows and horses for 361 days a year but at the beginning of August every year for 4 days 70.000 crazy metalheads come here to have fun and listen to some of the greatest heavy metal bands. It’s a paradise for the fans of this music because you have the opportunity to listen some of the 80 bands that play here every year but it’s not only the music but also the feeling of meeting people from all over the world (from Chile to Japan) that share their passion for music (from hard rock to black metal and everything between).
Wacken Open Air festival is by far the biggest metal festival in the world but when it was first held (in 1990) it was just a small one with some local unkown bands. I attented the festival for the first time in 2002 when it was already a huge event with 4 stages. I returned back in 2006 but it was 2009 (20th anniversary of the festival) when we had to buy our ticket 9 months in advance because the festival went sold out before Christmas!!! This year they included some smaller stages outside the stage site for some smaller bands.
So, don’t wait for your favorite band to confirm that they play in Wacken, you will definitely find some bands to listen to among the more than 80 bands that play in Wacken every year. The ticket costs (2009) 120 euro and includes the entrance to the camping area.

What a contradiction! Still laughing some of your comments. And I enjoyed your writing so much, so I may even consider joining you next year. :)
