Oh Rome! I cant believe it took me so many years to visit this amazing city! If you love history Rome will blow you off as it is like walking in a huge open air museum! We stayed for 8 days and saw numerous sites, interesting museums, beautiful churches and so many other things, it was interesting even when we walked among the small alleys with no plan and we were checking the architecture. Although we covered a lot of the city we have to return… after all we have to return because we threw the coin at Fontana di Trevi ;)

One week before the trip I read "Roma: The Novel of Ancient Rome" but we also saw some classic films about Rome like:
Roman Holidays”, “La Dolce Vita”, “Gladiator”, “Felini’s Roma

I was expecting food to be much more expensive in Rome but we ate in restaurants with normal prices even in touristic areas. You can save some money though if you buy sandwiches, slices of pizza or Roasted Chestnuts from street vendors. In early January and the low temperatures we had roasted chestnuts every day anyway even if we were full after lunch. It’s very typical in Greece anyway so we are used of them.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Rome is an open air museum!

A great page, K! Thanks for discovering some amazing churches, like Santa Maria in Cosmedin. A good guide for my next trip.

Konstantine, these are wonderful pages, and you saw so many more churches than we did! *sigh* We MUST go back. Santa Maria Maggiore is one gorgeous church, isn't it?

I like Rome, surrounded by ruins. I had good memories there & bad memories too...:) You could go to Civita de Bagnoregio from Rome...
