Buenos Aires was the first city I visited in Argentina because my 3 weeks trip started here. I stayed 4 days walking for hours in many districts and then I returned for 3 more days at the end of my trip.
Buenos Aires is huge with more than 4.000.000 inhabitants. It’s the capital of the Argentine Republic and many people from all over the country choose to live here (the greater Buenos Aires probably has more than 12.000.000 people!!) because it’s the basic business city of the country. Buenos Aires is a port city that’s why the local are called portenos.
I was expecting to find huge traffic and noise but the first day I saw the city empty and I could easily walk around. I was thinking even to rent a bicycle!!! Then I remembered it was Easter so everyone was outside the city. I felt very lucky because I had the opportunity to see some peaceful streets that 3 days later were packed by cars again. The city gone crazy on Monday with thousands of cars, taxi and local buses racing each other. The subway was very useful but crowed during the day and so hot that I almost cried out for fresh air some times! The European influence is everywhere, from the architecture to the great ice creams. |

| | There are a lot of things to do here: -walk the coble narrow streets of San Telmo, the old part of the city(don’t miss Sunday’s market) -visit the picturesque touristic part of Boca -Recoleta and Palermo for great food and nightlife -Puerto Madero with great view along the river -many nice squares, parks and avenues and some interesting museums -if you have time don’t miss Tigre for a nice peaceful daytrip for picnic -go to Colonia in Uruguay by boat -do shopping and eat great food for really low cost. 1euro is 5 pesos, the economy is bad for the locals (and some of them are really in bad position after the crisis in 2001) but it’s like heaven for the European visitors -don’t miss the nightlife, the locals go out really late(after midnight) but you have many options, clubs, a lot of concerts, thousands of pubs etc -eat the famous big steak and the delicious local ice cream |
