Vienna - the City of Arts and Culture

by debay - last update: Apr 8, 2008

No visit to Vienna would be complete without a visit to the Schonnbrunn, the summer residence of the Hapsburg monarchy.

Be a tourist for one day and get the Classic Pass which entitles one to visit the palace rooms including the audio guide, take a ride on the train that goes up to the Gloriette, attend an apple strudel demo and taste a bite of apple strudel, plus gain entrance to the Labyrinth and surrounding area.
Strauss

Johann Strauss

Can you hear the strains of the Blue Danube Waltz? How about Radetsky's March ? Or Trisch Trasch Polka?

It seems that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is being mentioned too often nowadays that the Strausses have been left out of the picture. This statue is well-kept within the Stadtpark and without a guide book in hand, I just relied on the city map of Vienna to look for it. More info after I do my research on the internet.

The park is nice for spending a quiet afternoon reading a book, taking your dog for a walk, chatting with friends or just plain people-watching. Camera-laden tourists take pictures non-stop with this statue and one has to wait in turn.

Sisi Museum

Discounted entrance fees to the Hofburg Palace and Sisi Museum come with the Classic Pass for Schonnbrunn. Hence, I was able to take some pictures----didn't see any "no cameras allowed" signs here. But later, almost at the exit, I did see some of the signs.

Pros:"Easy to walk around"
Cons:"Some areas not too safe, e.g. train stations, sidewalks"
In A Nutshell:"Would love to visit again--with a proper guidebook in hand!"
