Rijeka Crnojevica Travel Guide: 15 reviews and 50 photos

Rijeka Crnojevica is a pretty little town of a few hundred people and a very good restaurant. Once upon a time Montenegrin princes had holiday homes here and it was an important trading center, meaning that at times in the past there was a lot of money here. You don’t see much of that any more, but the beauty of the area that drew people then is still here.

There’s some hiking here (to the ruins of Obod, and the Obodska caves, for example), or if you can find someone, you can hire a boat for a few hours on the lake. Most likely, though, you're coming here for the restaurant "Stari Most" (old bridge). If you're wondering, the old bridge is the one in the photo, left over from the town's heyday.

The town is not too far from the main roads, but to actually get here you'll have to take a barely one-lane road through the hills, and be prepared to take a wrong turn or two where there aren't any signs. Buses into the town itself are rare, but you can jump off the more frequent buses on one of the main roads and walk or hitch. There is a hiking trail between here and Virpazar (about 25 miles) as well, and I’ve heard you can hire boats at other points around Lake Skadar to bring you here.
