The hill stations, Coonoor among them, are towns the British built precisely to escape the season “hottest,” and it works—it was at least 30 degrees cooler there than in Chennai. I stayed in Upper Coonoor, above the fairly small town of Coonoor, surrounded by tea plantations. It’s a beautiful part of the world, and even more so when you’re coming from a flat, hot, crowded, yellow/reddish-dusty city. An hour flight and a 2-hour drive and you’re 8,000 feet up in the mountains in the middle of lush greenery. See the Travelog for details...
