The Bakery Villas and Houses Review

Favorite thing: It was the only big bakery found in Pompeii for a long time. By now, 35 have been found. The facilities for grinding wheat, kneading and baking bread were in the hortus (garden).

The Forum Streets Review

Favorite thing: It was the first large square built in the city, placed on the crossing of the main axes of the original settlement.
Religious, economic and politic buildings were built around the Forum.

Temple of Jupiter Temples Review

Favorite thing: This temple was built in the second century BC. Inside there was a statue of Jupiter whose head is preserved. The building was transformed into Capitolium and consecrated to the worship of the Capitoline Trinity (Jupiter, Juno and Minerva).

Thermopolium of Vetutius Placidus Villas and Houses Review

Favorite thing: Thermopolia were shops where hot food and drinks were sold. This is the lararium, decorated with a fresco representing the Genius, the Lares (house protectors), Mercury and Bacus, gods of Trade and Wine, respectively.
In these ancient fast food shops, the bar was on the street and there were some tubs built-in that contained the food or the drink.

The brothel (Lupanar) Villas and Houses Review

Favorite thing: Lupa means female-wolf but also prostitute. This was the best organized brothel in Pompeii, and the only one that was build specifically for this purpose. Beds are stonework and had a mattress on. The lupanar was decorated with erotic paintings.

House of the Tragic Poet Villas and Houses Review

Favorite thing: It is a small house with atrium. It takes its name from a mosaic that represents the theatric assay of a chorus of Satyrs. In the entrance was the famous mosaic of a chained dog with the inscription CAVE CANEM, beware of the dog.

House of the Small Fountain Villas and Houses Review

Favorite thing: According to the typical scheme of the roman villa with atrium, the house is built around the axe hall-atrium-tablino. This way, the guest can perceive immediately the status of the owner. Most of the rooms are connected to the atrium.
In the garden, frescoes sumptuously decorate the walls of the peristyle. The fountain (nympheum) is covered with mosaics and ornamented with sculptures.
