Beaches Kefalonia is one of the Ionian Islands. Mountanious and rainy, it is covered by forests that almost reach the beautiful beaches.
The most famous beach is Myrtos, in the northwest of the island.
Following the road to Fiskardo, you find Assos, a small village in the isthmus of a peninsula. The beach is wonderful for a siesta after a tasty lunch in one of the tabernas nearby. |
The best way to move is by car. You can rent a car and cross the island easily. Distances are no large, and the views from the road are worth driving up to Fiskardo, the northernmost tip of the island.
An earthquake hit the island in 1953, destroying many houses in the island. Nevertheless, Fiskardo kept its original architecture. The port and the old houses give the town a special charm. |
Very near Sami, the beautiful beach of Antisamos offers an amazing panorama. The forest that covers the hills comes down to the very seashore. The beach was quiet and peaceful when I was there, though it was September. A wonderful swim in the clear waters of the Ionian Sea. |
