Petra

by Aitana - last update: Mar 25, 2009

If there is a place in Jordan that really used to attract me, this was Petra. When I planned my trip, this was the place I most wanted to see. Petra fulfilled all my expectations. We entered early in the morning, after crossing the Siq (the shaft).

The city was the capital of the Nabateans, built around 100 BC. The archaeological site is full of hellenistic façades of ancient tombs.

Monuments

The Theater, the Treasury, the Urn Tomb, the Royal Tombs, the Corinthian Tomb, the Triclinium of the lions etc, and finally, the Monastery, on the highest part of the city.

Thanks a lot for taking me to Petra, at least I was able to visit virtually. When I was in Eilat, I had the chance to go but didn't, as it was too expensive for me. Hopefully one day...In the meantime, thank you for your info and the pictures.
