Island of Calm and Tranquility

Skopelos Town

Our first glimpse of Skopelos Town
Skopelos is a beautiful and picturesque Island. It is still totally unspoilt by tourism and a lot quieter than its neighbouring Island of Skiathos. The town of Skopelos has so much charm and appeal with white houses, narrow streets lined with shops and alleys where you can get totally lost as you climb higher and higher and the views you get to see from here are well worth the climb. The island is very green with beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters and traditional villages, it is also known for its 360 churches. I would recommend that you hire a jeep to tour the Island and to take some of the smaller roads that take you off the beaten track to see some of the beautiful coastline
Church high on a rock

Agios Ioannis Monastery

Agios Ioannis Monastery is perched on top of a craggy promontory and looks like it is ready to topple into the sea. This tiny whitewashed church has now been made famous by the recent filming of the Abba Movie Mamma Mia and it was the setting for the finale starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. I climbed up the almost vertical staircase in the sweltering heat but it was really worth it for the views

Amarandos (Amarantos)

This is one of the coves at Amarandos another location used for the filming of Mamma Mia. It is situated on the road to Stafylos just south of Agnondas. A beautiful, peaceful place to be where pine trees sweep down to the turquoise waters edge.
