Below are a few pictures taken from our holiday in Kefalonia in 2003 and 2004 between August 26th - 9th September. I fell in love with Kefalonia hence us returning the following year. The first year we stayed at the Makis Studios at the top of the main street in Skala and the second year we stayed at the San Giorgio Hotel on the beach road between Skala and Poros. Both were lovely apartments but I preferred the San Giorgio mainly because of the lovely view we had from the balcony of our apartment. There are some lovely places of interest to see which I will mention when I get to my travel pages also some really interesting excursions |
| | Kefalonia This boat left high and dry on the beach road between Skala and Poros. It caught my eye as we used to drive past every evening on our way into Skala from the San Giorgio |
Kefalonia Early morning view taken just as we left ferry on a day trip to Ithaka overlooking the Bay of Vathi. This island is smaller than Kefalonia with just over 2000 inhabitants but well worth a visit for the spectacular beautiful scenery
| | Kefalonia A picturesque peaceful village with a small harbour and a few tavernas. Well worth a visit. If you do go on coach excursion like we did first year you may miss out as some of them won't drive down there. We drove down there ourselves in 2004. There is also a castle which we could see but didn't drive up to |
Kefalonia Sami is a busy port, it is where we caught the ferry to go to Ithaka for the day. Ferries also go from here to Corfu, Patras and Italy. It is where most of the filming for Captain Corelli's movie was made although there isn't any evidence of this remaining
| | Kefalonia Myrtos has been been voted the most beautiful beach in Greece and when you go there you will see why. The road down to the beach is long and windy and in the summer months gets really busy, so to avoid the walk down I would suggest you get there early. The beach was also used in the filming of Captain Corelli's Mandolin |
Kefalonia This cave is named after the Greek submarine of World War 11 that used it as a hiding place. It used to hide during the day and wreak havoc on the Germans and Italians during the night. Picture was taken while on the Ionion Isle cruise which is well worth doing during your holiday
| | Kefalonia We first went to kefalonia in the summer of 2003 and we stayed at the Makis Studios. They are situated at the top of the main street in Skala. A nice relaxing place to stay with their own pool and poolside bar. |
