Greyhound Cafe: Fusion Fare

  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Greyhound Cafe

I love the Greyhound for its Thai-Italian fusion food which is very tasty and interesting. The black and white ambience is chic. Specials are written on a black board. Desserts are to die for so leave plenty of room.

There are many branches of this cafe - Siam Paragon, Emporium and Central Chidlom.

Favorite Dish: Try the spaghetti with anchovies and Thai spices. Hot and scrumptious!

Cafe De Tu: Simple but satisfying
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Cafe De Tu

Casual dining with great food. Love the som tum (papaya salad), the noodles in curry sauce and my favourite dessert - Orange Cake. Absolutely yummy!

I've been on a hunt for the yummiest orange cake that spanned from Kuala Lumpur to Penang to S'pore and finally found it here in Bangkok :-)

Favorite Dish: Orange cake. It's light, not too sweet and fits neatly in your tummy without being too full.

    Ging Kalpapruek: Popular and affordable
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Ging Kalpapruek

This is a great place for lunch. Fast service, good food at reasonable prices. Ambience is very simple, unpretentious.

What's unique is their curry with roti (bread). Dip the bread into the curry and enjoy!

Favorite Dish: Pomelo salad with soft shell crab. Be careful it's spicy. The tangy sweet taste creates a nice contrast to the soft shell crab which is crunchy and flavourful.

You & Mee: Oodles of noodles
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: You & Mee

As the name suggests, it's all about noodles. In Bangkok, the variety is out of this world ranging from dry noodles to the ones with curry/gravy. Cosy ambience.

Favorite Dish: Love the Pad Thai (rice noodles stir fried with prawns, peanuts etc.)

basil @ Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel: Named after the most versatile herb
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: basil @ Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel

Basil leaves are the most versatile herb and widely used in Thai and other Asian cuisine. I've even used it in pasta which works just as well.

Thus, I think for this restaurant in Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit to be called basil. Serving the finest traditional Thai cuisine, basil comes with a contemporary ambience that's cosy and comfortable (picture taken from website).

Food here is excellent. Located at Level 1.

  • Restaurant Name: Smooth Curry @ Plaza Athenee Hotel

The authentic taste of Thailand come alive in the warm and chic atmosphere of Smooth Curry (picture taken from website).

As its name goes, Smooth Curry specialises in all types of curry dishes that's flavourful, spicy and utterly yummy.

I'm a fan of Thai food and when I have a craving for Thai curry dishes, this is where I would go.

    Hours: 6:00 PM - 10:30 PM; Monday - Saturday 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM

Favorite Dish: Tender succulent duck curry cooked with juicy lychees - tastes tangy, sweet and spicy at the same time. The best duck curry I've tasted!

Savour delicious royal Thai cuisine amid riverside pavilions as graceful Thai dancers glide by your table (picture taken from website).

When you book your table, ask for one that's right next to the river. The ambience here is romantic with soft lights and Thai performance that's tasteful and refined.

Favorite Dish: The Thai dip dishes are wonderful. My favourite is the rice crackers with pork dip.

Erawan Tea Room: Don't let its name fool you!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Erawan Tea Room

Names can be so misleading. For the longest time, I avoided dining at Erawan Tea Room as I thought the cafe only serves tea and bakery stuff. It doesn't help that the front of the shops display cakes and snacks only.

It is only when my colleagues in Bangkok decided to take me to lunch here and I was surprised that the cafe serves some pretty authentic Thai food and it's all "tea-size" servings which is perfect so that we can all try a lot of different things.

The ambience of the cafe is very comfy with lush red sofas and armchairs and each setting is positioned in such a way that it's conducive to have little tete-a-tete with girlfriends and even job interviews (I was told!).

Favorite Dish: There are too many to recall in terms of good dishes as we ordered lots of it. My fave is still the pomelo salad and the Iced Lemongrass Tea. We tried the desserts which is delectable!

    Blue Elephant: Royal Thai cuisine
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Blue Elephant

My friend Owen decided to give me a treat at Blue Elephant Thai restaurant which is very sweet of her. Housed in an old colonial mansion, Blue Elephant looks grand. The ambience of the restaurant is quite formal and you are encouraged to dress up a bit for dinner.

Service is attentive and staff understands English which is great. There's also a culinary school here which I took lessons the next day. Check my travelogue for details.

There was a special set menu in the month of Sept07 which allowed us to sample different Thai dishes which I thought was neat as my favourite food is Thai food and I'm always hungry to try new dishes.

Taste wise is acceptable though I can't say this is the best Thai restaurant I've ever tasted. The spicyness is somewhat watered down to cater to Westerners as this restaurant is quite well known to expats.

Kuppa: Tease your nose and taste buds
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Bangkok Kuppa
  • Kuppa Cafe and Restaurant
  • by Restless-in-kl
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Restaurant Name: Kuppa

A few friends recommended that I dine at Kuppa after finding out that I was staying at Citadines since Kuppa is just a 5 mins walk from my serviced apartment. So on my last night in Bangkok just before I boarded my long haul flight to New York, I decided to give Kuppa a try.

The restaurant is easy to find as it's right next to Somerset (another Ascott serviced apartments). As soon as I enter, I was enveloped in coffee aroma. Found out that Kuppa roast their own blend of coffee (I see, hence the name Kuppa!)

Ambience wise, Kuppa is very comfortable and dim, perfect for romantic dinners. I was told that many Thai celebs dine here.

Favorite Dish: Honestly can't remember! I guess the food was not as memorable as the coffee aroma and the Thai celeb (I think) sitting across from my table :-)
