Ubud - the cultural center of Bali

Laidback charm

Rice terrace in Ubud
Though I've visited Ubud in the past, I never had the opportunity to spend a few days here until now. We love Ubud so much that we extended our stay :-)

Ubud is indeed different. It has a laidback charm and quiet quality in its countryside, complete with rice terraces, forests, gorges and rivers. Beautiful views everywhere and the air smells fresher, more rejuvenating.

Now is the best time to visit as the crowds has thinned and the climate in Ubud is very cool (20 degrees Celsius) at night.

Beauty lies in its people

There is also a vibrant side to Ubud, captured in the faces of its people and the rich culture/traditions that they embody in their lives. There's always a smile for you.

We had fun driving on our own, exploring the countryside and coming face to face with artists, mask makers and the like.

Honey to bees

No wonder there are so many Europeans/Americans who have made Ubud their home after a short visit. This has created an interesting blend of accommodation, food and arts/crafts found in the irresistable array of little shops here.

We stayed at Waka di Ume, situated right next to the rice fields, close to the town center but miles away from the crowds. Read more and view photos about this unique resort in the Waka di Ume travelogue.
