The old port from the city walls
When you come to the end of the Stradun (entry point pile gate) you can pass through one of two passages under the city walls, and you will find yourself in the old port.
Here you will find some very cosy seafood restaurants (although crowded in the evenings), and you will have a grand view over the mountains south of Dubrovnik and the island Lokrum.
There are many stands offering boattrips to the nearby islands (Elafiti islands), however these boattrips are more expensive than boattrips arranged from outside the old city.
Address: The old city
Directions: Follow the Stradun to the end and pass under the walls
Onofrios fountain
Entering the old City though the pile gate you will se Onofrios fountain, or whats left of it. Part of the fountain was destroyed in an earthquake in 1667.
There are still 16 masks remaining from wich clean water still runs.
Address: By the Pile gate

Stradun from pile gate
When entering the old city via the Pile Gate you will find yourself on the beginning of the wide road that divides the old town in two. The Stradun it self is filled with different tourist shops. Postcards, tourist office, cafés, shops etc.
On the north side of the road you will find narrow alleys going uphill. Going up these you will come to parrallel streets to the Stradun that are filled with restaurants.
Going in direction of the sea (not harbour) you will find a parrellel street to the Stradun filled with Jewellery.
Directions: Old City Dubrovnik
the small passages
The old city of Dubrovnik is encapsulated by the city walls. Inside the walls you will find a well preserved city that only bears the signs of the recent war in a few places. Most of the town is well preserved and cram packed with touristrelated shops and restaurants.
However going a bit into the alleys and away from the always crowded stradun will open up oppurtunities for a more relaxing stroll within the old city.
Address: Old town of Dubrovnik - you really cant miss it
Directions: Walk down the shore for 3-4 km from the main bus station in Dubrovnik.
The old city and the walls from the sea side
Its possible to climb the walls that surround the old city of Dubrovnik. There two entrances, and three different routes to take on the walls.
The most frequently used is the roundtour of the walls. This tour is 2 km long and costs 30 kn (2005).
Walking the walls gives a whole new impression of the old city, and especially the tile roofs are worth the 30 kn. The tour round the walls will also offer a great deal of different sights. Especially on the seaside of the walls you will experience local inhabitants having terasses on the actual walls.
Directions: You will not miss the ticket office at the pile gate.
