  • Bogense is surrounded by flat landscape. In the western direction much of the land has been taken from the sea in the past centuries, and here it is absolutely flat. To the south and west you will encounter minor hills a couple of kilometers out of town.
Northeast of the city you will find Æbleø, a small island that is uninhabited and serves as a nature reserve. Getting to Æbleø by foot is possible from Jersore, but its preferrable when the tides are low, as you have to walk a couple of kilometers of shallow water.

  • Æbelø is an island located just north of Fyn. The island is a functioning nature reserve only inhabited by the ranger that keeps the marked paths and overlooks the island.
Since the island became a nature park in 1999 the forests have been transformed to traditional danish leaf-forests. There is some wildlife on the island including quite some deers, goats/sheep and all sorts of small animals and reptiles (including the Stålorm a rather small and harmless snake).

You can get to the island by boat, or by wading from Jersore, and the following the sand-stretch nortwards to the island. The wading route called "Æbleø ebbevej" is marked, and frequently used in the summertime.
