At Portobello Market
Favorite thing: What was once a leafy country lane back in the 18th century has developed into one of the most famous streets in West London, thanks to it playing host to one of London's most popular markets. Portobello Road Market is really three markets in one, each with their own speciality.
Portobello Market, the world's largest antiques market, with over 1500 dealers selling every kind of antique and collectable. The market is open every Saturday, while the shops are open six days a week.
Market days start gradually from around 5.30am with trading between dealers from the UK and overseas. Most stall-holders have arrived by 8.00am and the market is in full swing for the rest of the day, with collectors and visitors from all over the world.
The shops and stalls of Portobello Market offer an extraordinary variety of goods ranging in price from a few pounds to several thousands. Visitors come from all over the world because they know that in Portobello Road they will find the most extensive selection of antiques in Britain.
Barber in Notting Hill
in the City...
Favorite thing: The so called "City" is London's financial district.
The City is today a major business and financial centre, ranking on a par with New York City as the leading centre of global finance; in the 19th Century, the City served as the world's primary business centre.
A number of skyscrapers have been built in recent years in the City of London and further skyscrapers are either under construction or planned to be built soon
Favorite thing: I caught the boat from the Westminster Pier (by Big Ben) to head to Greenwich. It was a cloudy day, which made the boat ride not really nice but anyway I got some great views of London.
When on the boat, the sights are amazing and combined, it makes for a nice day and is well worth a visit. If you're only in London for a few days I wouldn't put this at the top of your list. But if you have the time I would recommend it.
Main Street
Favorite thing: If you like Chinese food, here is the place!
Chinatown, London. A place full of the smell of the orient. It is mainly an area of restaurants and supermarkets with one or two gift shops. Gone are the small shops that sold Chinese shoes and dresses.
Best time to visit if you want to avoid massive crowds is during the working week. Chinese New Year would be overwhelmingly crowded but the decorations are in place a few days before and afterwards. Mid-Autumn Festival also has decorations. Far less national publicity is paid to this festival.
Shops are open quite late into the evening and 7 days a week.
Restaurants vary in price from cheap to very expensive. There are also a couple of Taiwanese restaurants as well as Japanese tucked among the many mainland Chinese
covent garden
Favorite thing: Covent Garden is a place where I always go when in London. The Piazza itself with the small boutiques and restaurant is very nice. Also there are a lot of shops on the nearby streets so this area is well worth a morning or afternoon spent there.
There are often music students performing at the Piazza (downstairs) so You´ll be able to here some good music.
In front of Albert Memorial
Favorite thing: It is situated in South Kensington in central London - . It forms the practical part of a national memorial to the Prince Consort - the decorative part is the Albert Memorial directly to the north in Kensington Gardens, now separated from the Hall by the heavy traffic along Kensington Gore. The hall also accommodates the largest pipe organ in the UK, and is the home of The Proms.
Little Venice
Favorite thing: Little Venice is one of the prettiest parts of London:
it is the name given to the junction between a canal leading to the Paddington basin, next to the London railway station by the same name, and the Regent's canal. The canal was opened in 1801. It forms a triangular basin with a little islet, hence the reference to Venice. The gardens near the islet are now named after Rembrandt with a reference to another Venice, Amsterdam which shares with Stockholm the appellation of Venice of the North.
Little Venice can be easily reached by Warwick Avenue Underground Station or by car from Marble Arch going northwards through Edgware Road and turning left after a mile in Maida Avenue.
Swans in the park..
Favorite thing: At over 350 acres, Hyde Park is one of the largest green spaces in Central London.
Hyde Park provides facilities for many different leisure activities and sports as well as being the focal point for public events of all sizes.
