The Land of Beers and Chocolates

by jeffjun - last update: Aug 12, 2005

If you are a fan of beers and chocolates you must visit Belgium. My favorite beer became "Leffe Blond" after trying it for the first time in Belgium. Ahhh....the taste of golden beer in a chalice-shaped beer glass. Belgians have so much respect for their beers. They have about two hundred different types of beers and all come in different shapes and sizes of beer glasses. If you work at a bar in Belgium you not only have to remember the names of all two hundred beers but you also need to remember the beer glasses that goes along with each beer. So when you visit Belgium, try ordering different varieties and see what type of beer glasses you get with your selection. Cheers!

Manneken Pis

The most famous Belgian boy

At the time of my visit, I didn't understand why so many people gathered around this small fountain to see a tiny statue of "a pissing boy". It was definitely more interesting to see the tourists fighting over their spots in their attempts to take good photos. I was so sure that there would be an incredible story behind this small statue but was very disappointed to find out that Belgians don't know the origins of the fountain.

I had the most amazing waffle from a street vendor near the statue. Waffle with bananas and strawberries slattered with melted chocolate sauce. Yum...
