Haze | Haze and sandstorm in Beijing |
As told in the general introduction, almost only nightlife. . . . well, not what you think! Work during day and wandering around during evenings. . . . A general introduction about the Beijing I have seen? Well: haze, lights, traffic, people, people, people, . . . more people. . . ! Strange to walk during evenings and nights in the streets where you even cannot read a sign on the wall, the houses, the road signs. . . . and nobody to help you. . . in fact, that’s what I like: getting lost, more than lost, in complete outer world (and lost in translation,. . . . nice movie by the way. . ). my pictures are not very good, they reflect a bit what I have seen, night, lights, did not get a lot of what happened around me. . . like the camera did not get all I wanted. . . or the way I wanted it! And Beijing is busy preparing the Olympic Games, police is watching, employees are cleaning, whole streets are renovated (? Renovated or just demolished when too “dirty”?), many buildings are under construction, giving the impression Beijing is just a gigantic construction place. The Avenues are kilometres long, straight, more than 70-100 meters wide ( 12 to 20 lanes for the cars, I do not exaggerate. . . ), places are huge. . . I liked much more walking in the small streets, (Hutongs), rather than on the avenues (Dajies) . |
| Great wall at Ba Da Ling (off the beaten path!!) |
| | The Great Wall I share here some of my impressions, they may be very personal and not always reflect the “true” or more usual Beijing. . . . . but it is just what I perceived here during my short stay. Ah I also had time the last day here to go to the Wall, the great one and I do not know. . .I have a real reluctance to go to crowded places, but, you will see, there is a way to escape. . . . |
| Street from a bikers perspective |
| | By bike ! My Chinese office did not work on Sunday. . . I visited a bit Beijing by bike, but only half a day; it is the best way, I guess, to visit this city and if I come back, it will be the way I will do it! |
