Jullianges and horses

Jullianges is a tiny (390 inhabitants) village in Auvergne not known 50 km away, except from horse races addicts (which I am not (addict!!haha)).
Walking and hiking in the hills and forests can be a nice thing to do in Jullianges and area, and it is almost all, except few days in the year, on race days. (Race days: mid June, mid July, end August).
Here are a few pictures and descriptions of an afternoon at the races, a bit of the atmosphere on a summer day in a small Auvergne village.

And a little church. . . . . .

The little church (15th-16th century) deserves a visit if you are in the area, and unlike many churches of the area, it is open all day and not only during mass time.

The second Sunday of August is the “ Fête du Sarassou”, a local white fresh cheese, with local music, folkloric dancers, and other “animations”, I never attended.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Wonderful in Summer
  • Cons:A bit . . . quiet
  • In a nutshell:Go for the races!

Looks like a very relaxing place for the people -- not for the horses, though.

A visit on the right days clearly has some attractions - even a brass band! What a pity (or maybe it's a good thing ?) that so many tourists fail to find the Massif Centrale area of France.
