This short trip is worth!

Mtskheta is a nice picturesque little city located about 15 km from Tbilisi, and for at least three reasons is worth a visit :
1) The setting of the city, at the confluence of two rivers dominated by hills and mountains topped with castles or monasteries.
2) Svetistkhoveli cathedral, which was the biggest of Georgia for a long time and is a real holy place in the country.
3) The archaeological museum.

This does look like a worthwhile place for a visit. Good that you had a knowledgeable guide for the museum (and gave her a French lesson in return).

Interesting page. The Caucasus are definitely on my wish list still. Have you read Ali and Nino by Kurban Said? A boy from Azerbaijan and a girl from Georgia, set in the period 1915-19. Great read.
