The capital of Georgia is a city with multiple faces; the old city near the banks of the Kura, one of the streams flowing down the Caucasus, the modern and lively city bordering Rustaveli Avenue, the suburbs with their high buildings; many faces in this city.
The city is changing, renovating, beautifying, making herself more attractive, and the visitor gets charmed, has difficulty to move away, wants to discover more and more. . . . .
The old churches of Tbilisi give her a very special charm, and discovering them at the turn of a small street or in an abandoned garden is a real pleasure for the one who likes to walk off beaten paths and discover hidden treasures here and there.
Despite the distance and some shyness the barrier of languages can erect, people of Tbilisi are very welcoming, help the lost traveller, and their smiles give a relaxed atmosphere to the city.
Tbilisi is a very old city and has known lots of revolutions and changes during history, and one can find traces of the past a bit everywhere in the city and can learn a lot in the museums.
You will find the following tips written by a random wanderer, a walker, a person who leaves the main routes and engages in the small paths.
Tbilisi is a very safe place, and the only dangers here are the traffic (like in many places), the vodka and the smiles of the girls; they can be avoided or appreciated, just a personal choice.
- In a nutshell:You always have something to discover here.

Really great page. T'bilisi seems vaguely familiar, and yet quite unlike anywhere else I've seen.
It was something of a scandal in this part of Germany when T’bilisi became a partner city of Saarbrücken in 1975, because it was the first partnership of a West German city with a city in what was then the Soviet Union. Since then the square in front of the opera house in Saarbrücken has been called Tblisser Platz, with a sign in German and Georgian.
But I have never known much about T’bilisi, so this page was fascinating – especially the back streets and the balconies.
Excellent page, but Kokoryko’s pages are always superb! Thanks for this trip in advance :)

Mille Grazie! hope you will enjoy the trip!
There is more to see & do here than I thought. you did a very good job of showing the sites and the pictures enhance the tour.
Hermann, outstanding page with brilliant photos of Tbilisi here. Interesting to read that they have a Saarbrücken bridge in town. The Hotel Gutsa really seems to be a good find.
Salut Hermann! I've just read your Tibilisi page. I've enjoyed it a lot and for sure I'll find it useful as I'm going there in August. When did you go there?
Thank you Hermann for bringing back memory about this wonderful city which I was lucky to visit once in Soviet times. It wasn't a trip abroad then because we lived in the united state. Who would know then that there would be a museum of the Soviet occupation in Tbilisi and we would live in different countries... Dream to come back there when times change...
I remember this place! Their motto was 'Still watching you'. Great photos!
