people on their way in high grass
In the high elephant grass; local people have no choice, but for the “tourist” it is the best way to feel what is happening around; walk on feet, even not all is safe around and you may do some weird encounters. . .

Boats on the shore
The local wooden fishermen boats are the best transportation mean for exploring the shores of the lake ; many parts of the shores are not accessible by foot (high grass in swampy areas at the foot of the Rift escarpment , or cliffs at the fault escarpmment), and a boat was necessary to reach some parts of the shores.
The fishermen boats proved very reliable and the people were helpful for guiding us to the places we wanted to visit.

don't follow too close!
The purpose is not to place an ad for this vehicle; the Land 110 was very efficient and reliable in many terrain conditions; to cover long distances there was no other mean than to use these 4x4 vehicles; and access to many areas would not have been possible without the vehicles. There were very few petrol stations operating in the country and we carried a drum of diesel in one of the cars.
