The Old Church and other Amsterdam, Netherlands Things to Do Tips

This is by far my favorite coffee shop. It's a small place but not usually crowded and the atmosphere is great. The bar tender was a beautiful woman with a great personality. It has the normal music program that any and every business in Holland has and she was very open to requests. Drinks upstairs, smokes downstairs. This was the place I always went to after a long walk back from a museum. Open 10am to 1am(?) Confirmation of business hours and some photos of the place when I go back this December.

I went in with my hostel-mate Craig. It was amazing, kind of morbid, but it really makes you think. After paying 7.50 Euros at the entrance you can tour most of the house. The upstairs part is blocked by a clear plastic shield for preservation. We were able to enter the house through the secret entrance behind the bookcase although at times it has been prohibited. It is a tour you can take at your own pace. It has different rooms playing video repeats with historical perspectives and interviews with those who helped the Frank family in hiding (You use one of the headphone slots with your chosen language). The images of the German patrol cars flooding the same streets you used to walk there is eery and gives you an idea of how little hope they ever had of living through the war . Afterwards stop at a bar close to the Anne Frank House and enjoy a Hoegardden, it's the best way to top that day's trip off.

The Rijksmuseum was great. Not being much of an art buff I can describe little. The statues and garden outside are beautiful and it neighbors the Van Gogh Museum.

I looked forward to seeing this museum and it was great. Not many works by Van Gogh himself, mostly his inspirations and art of his time.

The CanalBus is one of Amsterdam's greatest features. You can hop on and off 14 different stops or take a tour through the canals. The stops include the Rembrandt House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Leidsplein, Maritime Museum and Centraal Station.
