"Thule AFB, Greenland" Thule by Mather12

Got my electronics start here with RCA on BMEWS (Ballistic Missile Early Warning System). Great pay working seven days a week about 500 miles from the North Pole. Not a nice place to visit; got down to -50 degrees F with winds sometimes up to 110 MPH. We laughingly refered to it as the "Last Resort."

• Pros:GREAT MONEY for the 1960s.
• Cons:Perpetual night from September to February with low temperatures and high winds!.
• In a nutshell:I'd never go back!!!
