Pszczyna Castle

Pszczyna may be difficult to pronounce, for us non-Poles, but is well worth a visit. This small town to the west of Krakow is dominated by a magnificent castle – so magnificent that it has been called “the Versailles of Poland”.

We were fortunate enough to visit here as an excursion from Krakow during the VT Euromeet held there, and to be treated to a special concert performance in its stunning Mirror Room.

While in Pszczyna I also made time to visit an interesting small museum, where a number of typical rural buildings from different parts of Poland have been brought together. While not as extensive as the similar museum I later visited in Lviv, it is a tranquil spot and makes an interesting contrast to the opulence of the castle.

Hi Sarah, Pszczyna looks like a very good day trip! The castle looks really beautiful, and how good that you had a little time to visit Skansen Museum as well.

I am glad you enjoyed Pszczyna. I especially like your tips and photoes on Skansen Musem, those WWI maps would be interesting for me as well.

Great that your group was treated to a musical performance on a traditional harpsichord (and cello) in the Mirror Room of the castle!

The soup looks good and to be able to explore Pszczyna's Castle must have been fun! Nice page!

Nice timing with the festival on the main square, Sarah. Skansen museum looks like something I saw in Sweden and that potato soup sounds like the one my Mom used to man sans the bacon. Great little find of a town.

It's a pity I missed the skanken. I have to visit that village again soon. Ciao!

Fabulous page about this great little place. As you have now learned how to pronounce Pszczyna, I would like to tell you that you have crossed the town of Przemysl on your train trip to Lviv. So how would you pronounce that one?

Love that Skansen museum :-) (BTW: a similar one in Sweden has the same name!). And I laughed about the late arriving soup and the language topic, reminds me of Speyer and sourbugger's experience :-)

Lovely page on a lovely town :) Wish we would have had more time to explore! Hopefully some other time.
