Just back from a second visit to this lovely small city by the water, and as before it was football that lured us there!
It's fantastic to be able to follow our team, Newcastle United, in Europe. We get to visit great destinations that we might not otherwise have got round to, and to catch up with old friends and often make new ones.

|  | City of the midnight (almost!) sun In addition to the match (by the way, we beat Lillestrom 3-0) we explored the city, especially the harbour area, and enjoyed a few good meals and cold beers in the hot sunshine. Last time we were here it was February and freezing, and it was good to see the city in a different light. The long warm evenings were wonderful.

A warm welcome! Local football fans made us very welcome, both the Scandinavian Mags (thanks Christian!), Lillestrøm supporters and the Valerenga fans who remembered our previous visit with affection.

Too bad Newcastle United isn't in that league any more, but I'm glad they used to be so they could lure you to Oslo. Like Copenhagen, Oslo has recently opened a great new opera house by the harbour, so I expect I'll go there soon (despite the prices). | robertgaz Tue Mar 10, 2009 23:34 UTC

Oh Sarah, there are still pages I don't know yet :-) This is so lovely, I never thought, Oslo would be so green and nice :-)) The Cafe Celsius sounds perfect, Akershus Fortress as well and your hotel find is perfect :-) |
