About a four hour drive south of Rio is the pretty colonial town of Parati (also sometimes spelt Paraty, and pronounced Par-a-CHEE). With its colourfully painted houses and some charming hotels and restaurants, it is well worth a few days visit if you can fit it into your itinerary.
We stayed just two nights, which was enough to give us a flavour of the town and to see a different side to this vast country, though longer would have enabled us to explore the surrounding countryside a little too.

Our visit was some years ago now. I’ve done my best to check that all my info is up to date but I appreciate things may have changed. Please do let me know if you spot any errors or discover changes that I should correct.

sourbugger Tue Jul 22, 2008 15:32 UTC loved the page, even if the town sounds like a type of indian bread. | LoriPori Tue Jul 22, 2008 00:49 UTC I too like the gold and blue painted doors and the lovely church. Also thanks Sarah for visiting my Speyer pages. | deecat Fri Apr 4, 2008 16:23 UTC A small yet powerful page about Parati. Love the windows and doors. The hotel looks good but seems so expensive. Food sounds wonderful. | kyoub Mon Mar 17, 2008 13:20 UTC A very nice tour of Parati. Interesting page and great photos, especially the church. |
