    • We stayed a couple of nights only in Salvador, at this three star hotel in the city centre (the newer part, not Pelorinho), and found it absolutely fine for our needs. Its biggest draw was a good sized circular roof-top pool surrounded by sun-loungers and with a small bar selling snacks and cold drinks – a great place to unwind with an ice cream after the hectic streets of the city.

    Apart from this it’s a fairly typical city centre hotel, with 12 floors and 275 rooms. The restaurant served a good buffet breakfast, and we also had dinner there one evening when we were too tired to go out (standard international fare and some Brazilian dishes). There is also a small lobby bar, ideal for a night-cap.

    The rooms have the usual mod cons – air-conditioning, cable TV, hair-dryer and in-room safe. A standard double room is currently US$88, with a Brazilian buffet breakfast included.
