We’re lucky enough to have two sets of friends living here: Alex and Pete have a lovely old cottage in Battle (site of the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings) while Paula and Kevin live in the seaside town of Hastings (which despite its name wasn’t the site of that famous battle!)
Because of this, we come here several times a year, so I'll try to keep this page updated regularly as we make new discoveries about this pretty corner of England.

Hello, Sarah! ~ I see it's a great place to visit. So much history there... It's always a pleasure to read and reread your great travel pages!~
What a picturesque region East Sussex is. The photo of Seven Sisters is just stunning. And I think the idea of following the characters from history in Battle is great. Especially kids would find it much more exciting than learning dry facts.
What a lovely place to spend a weekend with friends :-) Lucky you :-) These Merriment Gardens look so lovely, ah, yes, I must go one day. I also love the poppy painting behind Chris & George, just my kind of thing :-)
Wonderful updates, Sarah :-) I am sure, Michael had a lot of fun at the farm :-) And these photos of the cliffs are premium!!
Another very, very nice page with lots of excellent information and tips. Your opening photo is so beautiful that you can't help but want to visit East Sussex. I agree you have to be careful for seagulls, but I admit to loving to hear their calls because it means I'm near the ocean!!
Always great to have friends visit and show them around, you wind up seeing things you haven't and even when you have seen (or eaten!) something you often do it with new eyes of your own. Love those shots of the Sisters.
What a great idea the audio tour is at the Battle fields, it would make it so much more interesting. Enjoyed all the gardens and photo's!
Love the colours on the print you bought! Great new tips :)
The royal lifeboat instituation is a good charity to support, great updates makes me realise I should hire a car from time to time & get away for weekends
Me again, coming back to read your new tips since October 24, 2008. I read recently that because of global warming England will someday surpass France as the leading wine-growing country. So they're making a start already.
East Sussex sounds to be a lovely area to explore and I would very much like to visit one day! Great tips Sarah!
