I spent much less time visiting the Angkor complex then I had originally intended, but even with the limited time frame it was an awe inspiring visit.
The Angkor complex in Siem Reap consists of several temples sprawled out across the countryside. I hired a tuk tuk and a guide to take me around to as many. Trouble is, after awhile it's hard to remember the names of all of them. Angkor Wat is the most famous, and then there's Angkor Thom, and the Jungle Temple...and many more...
I have no idea which temple houses this stoneface carving, but I do know that what made this depiction unique is that the carving depicts Chinese soldiers, not soldiers from the Cambodia region. The carving tells the story of an important mythological battle and the thinking is that the Chinese faces were included because the Chinese were occupying Cambodia at the time of carving was made. |
