  • All night buses go from here. They are called "buhos." If you know where you are trying to go, then definitely take one cuz they are way cheaper than taxis (or free if you have an abono!)

  • Please don't judge. You could love it like so many of the die-hard bullfighting aficionados here in Madrid.

    Plaza Mayor: Plaza Mayor

  • Go here on Sundays; there is usually something going on. Also, there are a couple of cool taverns that are like real caves in the vicinity. Also check out "San Gines" for churros y chocolate.

  • If you go on Sundays (closed at 2), it's free, but there is usually a pretty long line.
The layout is kind of dumb, in my opinion. It's worth getting a map of the place and trying to find some type of systematic way of seeing everything, because otherwise you are bound to miss stuff.

Puerta del Sol: Puerta del Sol

  • They say this is the exact center of Spain, although it's not entirely true. (They actually have a plaque on the ground that reads "kilómetro 0." This is the true heart of the city though, with many places to eat, shop, and go out. It is very commercial and touristy, but it is just as popular for locals. It is amazing to think that so much history took place here as well...for instance, the battle portayed in Goya´s "Dos de Mayo."

  • Modern Art. A little weird and abstract if you are not into that stuff...especially the temporary exhibits.
It is free on Sundays and Saturday afternoons. Go Saturday afternoon during lunch hr (2-4). Line starts to form around 4 or so...

  • Don't be obsessed with trying to find stuff. Just take a "paseo" and/or relax like the other madrileños.

Great start to your VT pages. I lived in in Spain for a few years when I was in my early 20's. Looking at your pictures and reading your comments has brought back some great memories.
