  • a drive to the afghan border along the kyber pass road takes you back in time to years of history. on the outskirts of Peshawar you can see the refugee villages where afghani people have lived for many years. They are quite a sobering site, even after having seem poverty in India and south east asia.

The KP snakes its way through the mountains towards the afghan border, which opens up a moon like envirnment and a vast seemingly emptyness beyond yonder. its an eerie feeling to look out on afgahnistan, where so much has happened in the last few years, and much more is likely to continue for years to come....its like stareing at the final frontier

    Things To Do: shandoor pass.
  • Tip Rating:
  • the drive from Chitral is uncomfortable, but the scerery, once again in Pakistan, is second to none. you can star out the window for hours, and you'll have too, its a long long trip.
break up the trip in Mastuj, a very useful tip from Imranthetrekker. thanks brother.

the shandoor pas is also the birthplace of Polo. thats right. the same game prince charles thinks he is good at.

the mountains are bare of vegetation but the valleys are green and cattle graze aimlessly and seemingly ownerless. the road from Mastuj to Gilgit gave me a feeling of being able to see one the most beautiful places on earth that few westerns could even find on a map.

  • A VT member, and one of the friendliest, helpful and generous people your likely to meet. Imran knows just about everything about the Chitral area, and knows just about everyone in Chitral, stopping every 10 etres to chat to his family and friends. Dont think twice about going trekking with anyone except Imran, its definetly his forte.

We treked and treked one day, till I got a big blister. I named my blister "Imran"

  • Tip Rating:
  • no real redeeming features unlike Chitral or Passu, Gitgit is a regional stageing point for further travels.
