Lijiang está al Suroeste de China y al Norte de la provincia de Yunnan en las estribaciones del Himalayas
Ha estado habitada por diversos grupos étnicos , los Bai , tibetanos , Miao , Naxi que "gracias " a la falta de comunicaciones han conseguido mantener sus tradiciones y cultura a través de los años
Los viajeros que tuvieron la suerte de conocerla hace veinte años , seguro que encontraron una ciudad muy distinta a la que existe ahora , pero no nos queda más remedio que disfrutarla como es . en algún momento parece un parque temático , lleno de Chinos que siguen a sus guías con sus megáfonos y sus banderitas , pero en cuanto te metes por una callejuela estrecha o haces una excursión por el campo todo cambia y puedes disfrutar de una ciudad y unos alrededores inolvidables
