Fue el centro del Universo Chino , albergó 13 dinastías , hasta que en el siglo X en que la dinastía Song decidió cambiar la capital a Kaifeng.
Hoy en día es una ciudad industrial y moderna , donde se ven pocos recuerdos de su historia , pero está cerca de dos sitios muy interesantes , las cuevas de Longmen y el templo Shaolin
