Abel Tasman fue el comandante de una expedición de la Compañía Holandesa de las Indias Orientales que fue en busca de La Gran tierra del Sur o la Terra Australis Incognita y en 1642 , aunque no desembarcó , fue el primer Europeo que descubrió estas costas y las registró en sus mapas por eso se le dió el nombre a este parque natural
El parque tiene una ruta por la costa de 51 kms. que se desarrolla por un bosque que va bordeando el mar y cruzando ríos . El paseo no es duro y pasa por sitios muy agradables y puedes programartelo a tu gusto pues hay unos barcos que van por la costa , dando un paseo estupendo por el mar y te pueden para en ciertos sitios del recorrido para que hagas el tramo que quieras a pie y depués hay también otros sitios donde te pueden recojer
También se puede hacer kayaking , submarinismo , playa...

You may tramp the park along the coast for 51 kms., which are in a forest that is skirting the sea and crossing rivers. The walk is not hard and you go through nice sites . You may program your tramp as you like because there are boats going by the coast, that give a nice trip by the sea and you may land in certain parts , make the tramp that you want and get again to the boat in a different part
