| | We arrived to Cambodia by the Mekong river in the Kaam Samnor border, and from there we went up to Phnom Penh, that was our first contact with this country We were lucky to be there on the November full moon, that is when they celebrate the Bon Om Tuk and the boat festival. This holliday coincide with the victory of a king to the Chams (Jayavarman VII ) that dominated Angkor on the XII century but what it is really curious is that they also celebrate the change of the river Tonle Sap flow , because the Mekong river water does not enter due to the river level reduction because of the dry season , and water starts to flow in the opposite direction when the Tonle Sap lake starts to empty , and of course they said that this was possible due to the power of the king
Phnom Penh was full of people that came from all over the country to see the boats racing, that are competing during three days up to the time that there are winnig crews and they change the appearance of the town , giving to it a gret happiness and movement |
