  I went in the 1950s when it wasn't commercialised. The graves of the clans were overgrown and much more interesting [shame on you Shane] was the huge monument to the English dead. I do know an ancestor lost his land for helping an escaping Jacobite.

  excellent and concise info about Culloden. I guess it's a pretty bleak place that doesn't have much appeal to the eye. At least the events that took place were real -- contrary to the hype around Loch Ness and its fake monster!
