"The middle of nowhere" Yakutat by mylookout1

This is a village truly in the wilderness. Fishing and hunting are the main tourist attractions here. I stopped in for the day to visit my friend who was working there for the summer before traveling back to anchorage.
i can truly say that I have heard total quietness. I have never been somewhere where you can actually not hear a sound.. amazing. There is a short paved road through the small village, everything else is gravel. We traveled about 20 miles down this road to get to the lake with the icebergs. We stopped at several streams along the way to see the salmon running; so plentiful and thick you could almost walk across the stream on top of them. I did not actually see a bear, but there signs everywhere that they were plentiful.
Lot's of fishing here, people come from all over the world to fish here. There are lots of cabins to stay in and a few fishing lodges. This area is filled with countless numbers of eagles.
- Pros:miles from civilization... .peace and quiet, abundant fish and wildlife.
- Cons:no stores or shopping conviences
- In a nutshell:A great place to spend time getting away from all the stress and pressures of society.
