A couple of years ago, my mum and I decided to plan a short trip away somewhere each year instead of buying Christmas presents for each other and both prefer doing this now. Usually we visit somewhere in the U.K., as my mum hates flying, so I was really amazed when she said she’d like to go to Rome. She told me that her own mum always hoped to go there and talked about it a lot to her and her sister when they were young children and she knew I would be keen to go too, as I like visiting cities. She was a bit nervous when we took off in the plane but after that she enjoyed the whole time we were away. There is such a lot to see and do there that I wish I’d been a little more organised in planning my time before I left, as I know there must be a lot of lovely places we didn’t manage to see on our short trip. Still that’s always a good excuse for returning! I was really fascinated to see the ancient Roman and Mediaeval buildings around the city and thought a lot of the more recent ones were very beautiful too. It is just such a lovely city to wander around and although we visited in January, we were fairly lucky with the weather too; it was sunny and sometimes quite warm, although very breezy most of the time. I enjoyed the food we had there, especially the bread and coffee, which covered my favourite things to eat and to drink! |
