X-mas, New Years, Ramadan and the Eid ALL at Once | Cairo Tower & the nile at sunset |
I visited Cairo in December 2001...It was my last year at the American University of Beirut, and so for christmas break, Alia one of my closest friends and I decided to head out to visit Egypt! It was my first trip away from Lebanon in such a long time, and so we made sure we had a great time in the City that no one ever sleeps in (and I mean..you can't even if you tried).
That year X-mas and the New Year period coincided with the end of Ramadan and the Eid! And so, the first two days we were there, people seemed to quiet down a bit during the day...but after the iftar the city everything came to life:people, cars, boats... everyone was out and about, it was daytime all over again in Cairo :o)
Before you go to Cairo, just be prepared that it is unlike any city in the world. You have to go there with no preconceptions, no prejudices, and no expectations...just expect the unexpected...have a sense of humour, mingle and have a great time! |
